Your work in the hospital requires your presence there during Jumu`ah Prayer in anticipation of receiving any emergency cases

Q 1: I work as a male nurse and supervise the admission of patients. On Fridays, just a doctor and I remain on duty. Is it obligatory for me to attend Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer or not? Please be informed that the Accident and Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day.

A: If your work in the hospital requires your presence there during Jumu`ah Prayer in anticipation of receiving any emergency cases, it is permissible for you to remain in the hospital. In such case, you are excused for not attending Jumu`ah Prayer and you should offer instead the regular Zhuhr (Noon) Prayer, i.e. four Rak`ahs (units of Prayer).May Allah grant us success.
